What Is Breast Cancer Foundation New Zealand?

Established in 1994 by a group of New Zealand doctors, BCFNZ is a charitable trust dedicated to improving breast cancer detection, treatment, and support. Their belief is bold yet attainable: to make breast cancer a manageable condition rather than a life-threatening disease.

Why Breast Cancer Awareness Matters

Every day, nine women in New Zealand hear the life-changing words, “You have breast cancer”. Early detection and treatment can save lives, but challenges remain. By supporting BCFNZ, we can contribute to programs that bring hope and tangible help to patients and their families.

Reaching Every Corner of New Zealand

The BCFNZ Pink Campervans, bring breast health education and care to towns and cities nationwide. This mobile breast health clinics staffed by expert nurses, travels around each year to provide:

  • Guidance on how to check your breasts.
  • The importance of regular mammograms.
  • Healthy lifestyle tips to lower your risk.

Through this initiative, BCFNZ empowers New Zealanders to take charge of their breast health.

Advocating for Change

BCFNZ isn’t just about support—they’re also fighting for change. They strive to bring breast cancer to the attention of the public eye and advocate for:

  • Continued improvement in access to treatment and care for all New Zealanders
  • Improved access to new drugs and treatments.
  • Increased access for women to have reconstructive surgery.
  • Public awareness campaigns to make sure breast cancer stays a priority.

Where Your Donations Go

BCFNZ relies entirely on donations, and every dollar has an impact:

  • Research with the help of an expert team from the University of Auckland, they have analysed data in Te Rēhita Mate Ūtaetae – Breast Cancer Foundation National Register to produce the first and most extensive study of its kind
  • Education and awareness in communities so more breast cancers are detected early and lives saved.
  • Support for women with breast cancer including an 0800 specialist breast nurse advice line, counselling and rehab services following surgery.
  • Advocacy pushing for better screening, diagnosis, and treatment access.
