What does a typical day as a Human Resources Business Partner look like?

I am not sure there is a typical day as people are unique and change is constant. It’s important to have some clear expectations and principles to guide people but context is very important in supporting leaders and employees with problem solving, decision making, teamwork, engaging people at work and optimising productivity.

What advice can you offer to other Human Resources Business Partners who are just starting?

Be clear on purpose. Take care of yourself so you can take care of others. Be adaptable and understand context. Adopt a learning attitude!

What’s the best bit of advice you’ve ever been given?

Be grateful for what you have.

Tell us about a professional success story that you’re proud of.

The ability to work with a leadership team in transforming an organisation to a new way of working.

What are your favourite things about working at InterMed?

While the company has been around for 45 years, it still feels like it is in its infancy with many opportunities and future potential. InterMed has a great team of people. I love the industry because we are helping improve and save people’s lives which is very impactful. New technologies and research keeps things fresh and exciting.

What have been some of the most important lessons you’ve learned throughout your career?

  • It’s important to be values aligned to what you do because you spend many hours at work,
  • Never stop learning because things are changing all the time
  • Great leadership is powerful and inspiring

How do you like to spend your time when you aren’t working?

Family is top priority. I also teach Jazzercise and love the great outdoors especially stand-up paddle boarding, bike riding, walking my border collie and climbing trees. Travel and discovering other cultures is high on the list and I love food and aim to cook a new recipe every week.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

Very hard to pin down to a single thing as there are many things I would love to learn to do. High on the list would be playing the piano or becoming an architect/designer of homes.

How do you define success?

Reaching your own personal goals in life, being happy and contributing to the greater good in society.
