Funding Changes for Insulin Pump Consumables (October 2026)
From 1st October 2026, Medtronic/MiniMed reservoirs and infusion sets will be delisted from Pharmac funding. This means ongoing access to funded consumables will require approval through Pharmac’s Exceptional Circumstances process for alternative brand requests for diabetes technology. Please see Pharmac link below for application process.
View application processWhat this means for you
If you already have Exceptional Circumstances approval
All patients who have current Exceptional Circumstances approvals extending beyond 30th September 2026 do not need to take any action at this point. Your pump consumables approval will be supported and extended to align with the expiry of your other funded technology (for a further period of up to 2-years) following the delisting in October.
For patients whose Exceptional Circumstances approval expires on or before 30th September 2026, it is important you act urgently. You need to contact your healthcare professional to review your situation and apply for continued funding of your pump consumables. We recommend having your renewal application submitted in July or early August.
If you are unsure of your approval status or expiry date, please contact your diabetes clinic. They will be able to confirm your current approval and guide you on the next steps.
If you do not currently have an Exceptional Circumstances approval
It is important you act now. We strongly recommend contacting your diabetes clinic as soon as possible to begin the application process. Approvals can take time, and early action will help minimise the risk of delays.
Ordering your supplies before the 1st October 2026
To help ensure continuity of your therapy, we recommend you maintain an adequate supply of consumables ahead of the funding change.
While your application is being processed, it’s important to ensure you have enough supplies to cover your usual needs in case of any delays.
To support this:
- Review your maximum entitlement for infusion sets and reservoirs (per 3-month period). Refer to prescription link below for guidance.
- Order as needed within your normal allowance, ensuring you have sufficient stock on hand.
Ongoing access
Medtronic/MiniMed infusion sets and reservoirs will continue to be available for purchase through our InterMed website. Access to supplies will remain available if needed outside of funding.
